Considering the challenges of accessing child care in Greater Vancouver and our lengthy waitlists, we encourage you to apply as early as possible. The earliest you are eligible to apply is:
Students: before admission to UBC—if you are applying to study at UBC, apply to join our waitlist as soon as possible. You do not need to wait until you are admitted to UBC to apply. When you are offered a child care space, you will be asked to provide your student identification number so we can verify your student status.
Faculty and staff: before employment at UBC—if you are applying for a faculty or staff position at UBC, apply to join our waitlist as soon as possible. You do not need to wait until you accept a position at UBC to apply. When you are offered a child care space, you will be asked to provide your employee identification number to verify your employment status.
Birth parents: once you receive a due date for the birth of your child—you are eligible to apply as soon as you receive a due date from a medical professional, but not before that time. You do not need to wait until the child is born to apply.
Adoptive parents: once you have applied to adopt a child—you are eligible to apply as soon as you have applied for adoption, but not before that time. You do not need to wait until the adoption is confirmed to apply.
Legal guardians, foster parents and caregiving families: as soon as you anticipate taking on guardianship or care of a child—you are eligible to apply as soon as you are aware that you need to establish child care for a child who is or will be in your care.
